Interview with Catherine Njenga from Amani Women's Empowerment and Support. Original Broadcast - 22nd February 2026.On Grow with Glow, we’re joined by Catherine Njenga from Amani Women’s Empowerment and Support, an organisation dedicated to supporting Black, Asian and ethnic minority women who are survivors of domestic abuse, or who are currently living with it.In our conversation, we talk openly about the gap in support that exists for many women from minority backgrounds. Catherine explains how cultural expectations, such as being told to “stay”, “hold the family together” or “protect the marriage” can make it even harder for women to seek help, speak out, or be believed. We explore the vital work Amani does to empower women to make informed choices about their safety and their future. This includes emotional support, help with reporting abuse, access to education, and guidance around legal support, all delivered in a way that is culturally aware, respectful and centred around the woman herself. This is a powerful, compassionate conversation about visibility, advocacy and creating safe spaces where women are supported to take steps forward at their own pace, in their own way.
