The Choral Society presents an unforgettable evening of music performing one of the most iconic works in the choral repertoire: Mozart's Requiem. This haunting and emotionally charged piece has captivated audiences for centuries with its profound beauty and timeless power.
Mozart was working on the Requiem in the final year of his life, and he passed away before completing it. Some believe Mozart was composing the Requiem for his own funeral, as he was in poor health at the time, but it remains a mystery. He completed just the first eight movements before he died. The final movements were completed by his student, Franz Xaver Süssmayr, based on Mozart’s sketches.
The Solemn Vespers is not performed as often as the Requiem but is a work of emotional range and powerful contrasts making it a truly hidden gem from Mozart's sacred repertoire.
